We invent and scale Computer Vision / ML systems for robotics in fulfillment centers. Our mission is to enable robots to interact safely, efficiently, and fluently with the clutter and uncertainty of real-world fulfillment centers. We hire and develop CVML experts in robotics with a focus on deep learning, foundation models, generative models, intelligent control, semi-supervised and unsupervised learning. Our solutions enable robots to learn from their own experiences, from each other, and from humans to build intelligence that feeds itself.

We are seeking an experienced Computer Vision ML Applied Science Manager to lead a team of talented applied scientists and software engineers developing and deploying advanced vision, machine learning and optimization algorithms. You will drive CVML innovation that enables manipulation in high-contact, high-density, and diverse conditions with the speed and reliability that will delight our customers. Collaborating with cross-functional teams across hardware, software, and science, you will deliver reliable and high-performing solutions that will scale across geographies, applications, and conditions. Key job responsibilities
* As a manager, you will be responsible for researching, implementing, delivering and maintaining critical computer vision and machine learning capabilities at amazon robotics.
* You will prioritize being a great people manager: motivating, rewarding, and coaching your diverse team is the most important part of this role. You will recruit and retain top talent and excel in day-to-day people and performance management tasks.
* You will keep your technical skills current to contribute to architecture and design discussions.
* You will regularly take part in deep-dive troubleshooting exercises and drive technical post-mortem discussions to identify the root cause of complex issues.
* Set a vision for your team and create product roadmaps. Help your team sort out technical and product requirements and priorities. Use project management skills to deliver product roadmap items and other cross-team projects.

- Work closely with motion, hardware, and software teams to create integrated robotic solutions that are better than the sum of their parts.
- Implement best practices in applied research and software development, managing project timelines, resources, and deliverables effectively.

- PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of industry or academic research experience
- 6+ years of applied research experience
- 3+ years of scientists or machine learning engineers management experience
- Experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business application
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Strong understanding of computer vision and machine learning (classical, deep neural networks and foundation models)

- Experience hiring and growing top talent
- Familiarity with CV detection (segmentation, classification, performance KPIs (mAP, ROC, Recall-at-set-precision etc)), 3D Geometry and camera calibrations.
- Experience in the latest developments in the field of ML e.g. foundation models, ViTs, contrastive loss, generative models like diffusion models etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $165,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $286,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
